tea for two

Design is a way of perceptions and artistic expression. It does not necessarily have to be industrious, trite, cold and alienated. This project deals with questions and sculptural ideas within the world of design and vice versa. Where does the border pass between the two worlds and why wouldn't the two meet more often?

The tea set is surprising and creating questions. That is the secret of its essence – hesitation, search and tracking - all are intentional parts of the project. They all insinuate, in a way, that it is not anymore about just-another conventional tea set. It is a new Tea ceremony with its own, all new, set of rules and codes enveloping alike an internal, as well as external, structured reality.

The goal is to breathe life and pulse through and into the set. Create a new and exciting event. Passing warmth, softness, imagination and feelings through the hands that caress and hold the pillow-like teapot, together with the lips that touch the different sides and shapes of the unusual cups - all leave a deep impression.

As it is customary in some magnificent ceremonies, to present a precious prize or gift on a velvet pillow, so it is here. The cups are laid peacefully on the pillow-like teapot, adding a prestigious and noble feeling to the tea ceremony.

In addition, the tea ceremony hints to the building sensation of expectations and patience coming with every touch and feeling of warmth using the set. Those feelings are contradicting in many ways to the various present–days designs that will usually deal with rather the anatomic and functional solutions, meant to bring immediate satisfaction to the ordinary end-users.

That new perception, represented in the artwork of “tea for two” together with the humbling sensitivity and humanity, create eternal guidelines and principals directed at a long time ritual and not at a ‘just-passing-through’ and fashionable design.
